28 Days Later is a 2002 British post-apocalyptic horror/science fiction film directed by the Academy Award Winner Danny Boyle. The film stars Cillian Murphy, Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson, Noah Huntley, and Christopher Eccleston.
The plot depicts the breakdown of society following the accidental release of a highly contagious “rage” virus and focuses upon the struggle of four survivors to cope with the ruination of the life they once knew. Within 28 days the outbreak in London caused the evacuation and death of almost all of Britain leaving behind a blood-thirsty infected population and a handful of solitary normal persons. Civilization came to a halt, society got destroyed while those limited survivors fight for existence among frequent attack by the vicious victims.
The central figure is Jim, a delivery boy who wakes up one day in a hospital only to find the hospital and the entire city deserted. The first scene in which he finds out what really happened to mankind is truly amazing and disturbing. From that point on, he finds himself struggling to survive with the help of other survivors he meets along his way.
This movie’s greatest asset is its visual quality. The scenes of deserted streets of London are breathtaking and overwhelming and accompanied with an impressive soundtrack, it makes a huge impact on the viewer. By now, this movie has already cemented its position as one of the best, not only zombie, but horror movies of all time!
