28 Weeks Later is a 2007 British post-apocalyptic horror film, and sequel to the 2002 film 28 Days Later. The film was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and stars Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner and Catherine McCormack.
Although not as convincing and breath-taking as its predecessor, this movie is nonetheless, a very good horror flick. In many ways, it is more of a horror movie than 28 Day Later was as it has far more blood and gore and frightening scenes.
There is very little breathing room, and some of it is more disturbing and far less bridled than you might be expecting, especially if you are used to the character-based ‘safety’ of most films.
Overall the most powerful element of the film isn’t really character based, but rather the theme of a terrible pandemic that, besides a small twist, isn’t much changed from the first movie.
The character of Robert Carlyle, although solid in the first half of the movie, loses its credibility towards the end and there are some substantial flops which I cannot share without giving away some spoilers.
Yet, you should definitely watch this movie as a solid sequel to 28 Days Later, and as a good horror flick. Again, visual effects are top-notch and the final scene itself is worth the effort. A good solid 7/10!
