11. Zombiegeddon

Zombiegeddon Boardgame

Well, it was nice while it lasted! You have gotten word that the end is near, and Armageddon is right around the corner. (Actually, it begins tonight!)

Since it may be a while before you can get to the store, today would be a good time to gather as many supplies as possible. After all, tomorrow might be the beginning of a long, cold, (nuclear) winter!

Reiner Knizia’s Zombiegeddon is a fast-paced, perfect-information, strategy game. Each player spends the first half of the game rushing around the board collecting supplies and trying to stop your pesky neighbors from taking stuff that is rightfully yours. (At least as far as you are concerned!) The second half of the game is spent trying to survive. Sure there is some good stuff around, but it certainly isn’t plentiful and let’s face it, everyone is still trying to take it before you do! (Whoever has the most stuff at the end of the game wins!)

2-4 Players, Ages 13 and up; 60 minutes

12. When Darkness Comes The Awakening

When Darkness Comes The Awakening
When Darkness Comes The Awakening

When Darkness Comes is a tile-based board game that combines roleplaying with boardgaming. The first core set, called The Awakening, deals with the undead (zombies, mummies, vampires, etc).

The objective of the game will depend on the scenario. Some may include finding and defeating a big bad guy, finding a certain object, defusing a bomb, etc.

The characters (pre-generated or created) have 7 attributes with specialized skills. That will determine the amount of dice rolled for a skill check. The mechanic for skill checks is a poker variation instead of using straight high roll. Players try to get 6 high, one pair, 3 straight, 3 of a kind, 4 straight, etc.

13. The Walking Dead Board Game

Walking Dead Board Game
The Walking Dead Board Game

In The Walking Dead Board game, only the strong survive. The weak turn into walkers, and then turn against their former friends. Fight your way through zombie-infested Atlanta with your fellow survivors. Grab some weapons to clear a path. Visit destinations like the department store, old folk’s home, and the CDC. Find the tools you’ll need to live another day. Take on the role of Rick, Andrea, or one of the other hapless survivors and scrounge for sweet weapons like a Shotgun or Crossbow.

Keep your eyes open for new allies, but watch your back. When supplies start running low, it’s every man for himself. If you can make it back to camp with enough gear to defend yourself and those you still care for, you win! Should you fall to the hungry horde of walkers, the game doesn’t end. When a player dies and becomes a walker, they leave the world of the living behind and seek out the remaining survivors. Spring surprise attacks on the living, cause the walkers to frenzy, or contaminate the survivor’s supplies. Put the bite on your former friends and they’ll join you in your pursuit of the living. The fate of the human race is in your hands, either as a survivor or a walker.

2-4 Players, Ages 13 and up, 60 minutes

14. City of Horror

City of Horror Board Game
City of Horror

In City of Horror, you’re playing a group of humans faced with a zombie invasion. The struggle against the dead is important, but your own survival is vital! To win, you’ll have to make alliances but also betray your companions.

A game is played over 4 turns. Each turn represents one hour of time before reinforcements arrive. These turns are played out similarly: zombies arrive, players move one of their characters and then each location is resolved (power and attack).

At the end of the 4 turns of play, the player with the most victory points (characters, food and antidote) wins the game. But be careful: to get into the helicopter, the players will have to make sure each of their living characters has been vaccinated.

3-6 Players, Ages 10 and up, 90 minutes

15. Zombicide

Zombicide Base Game

Zombicide is a collaborative game for 1 to 6 players developed by Guillotine Games and published by CoolMiniOrNot. A game lasts for 20min (beginner board) to 3 hours (expert board).
71 minis. A special effort has been given to detail and diversity: several models are available for most zombies of the same type (example: several models for “walker”-type zombies, including male and female versions).
9 double-sided gaming tiles. Scenarios take place on boards from two to nine tiles in a riot-devastated urban area. Characters move from zone to zone defined by walls and crosswalks. Designers were careful about the overall quality and playability of the tiles’ illustrations.
Double-sided tokens. Objective tokens. Door tokens. Car tokens. Noise tokens. Zombie spawn zone tokens. More tokens than required indeed. In fact, enough of them are planned to create your craziest scenarios.
110 cards. Including Equipment cards and Zombie cards.

1 to 6 Players,  Ages 13 and up,  20 – 180 minutes

 16. World War Z Board Game

World War Z Board Game

Where there is a good book there is room for a good movie… and if both of these get a lot of noise and attention… here’s a board game :).

Reviews are generally pretty mixed, some value it for the fun and gameplay it offers while others do not like it because of the poor quality of the product. Of course, the game does cost only 20 bucks so there’s only so much it can offer.

Ages 12 and up

Yeah! I agree with LNoE. I didn’t know about some of this games.
There’s a game coming next year, a real survival zombie game it’s called Day Night Z. Looks promising. Take a look.
