The first six episodes have been aired and the “season” is over. So, what have we seen so far? A damn good show! Although the storyline is somewhat different from the comic book, the adaptation was a success as the the series manages to hold on to the atmosphere of the comic.
A bleak, cruel surrounding in which our heroes find themselves and their efforts to cope with that messed-up world captivates you. Personally, I liked the original script better (those who read the comic understand what I’m saying), but nonetheless the plot is top-notch and has much more intriguing moments to offer its viewers. The acting is excellent and the cast is very well put together. At first, I had a problem with the Rick Grimes part (Andrew Lincoln) as I imagined him completely different, but I must say he really grew on me. Shane, Lori, Carl and pretty much everybody else are spot on.
The last thing I want to talk about are visual effects and make – up. Visually, this is one of the best TV shows ever. The make-up is Hollywood quality and the visual effects are excellent for a TV show (some explosions look a bit shabby). The soundtrack by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica) is excellent and adds a nice dimension to the whole experience of the show.
I believe this series has a lot more to offer its viewers and I am hugely disappointed to see the season already end. Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing another episode until October 2011. But until then, remember: When in doubt, decapitate!
