Ideal zombie disposal weapon: the baseball bat!

  • Share

There are several reasons why a baseball bat is an excellent weapon against zombies.

First off, it is one of the rare weapons that you can actually keep around ( in the trunk of your car, under the bed, near the door… wherever) without people looking  at you funny.

Just imagine the look on a police officers face when he finds a katana or a machete inside the trunk of your car. I personaly wouldn’t want to be in that situation. The baseball bat makes no such problems! Because of these fact alone it is perfect to have!

It is relatively easy to use and there is no immediate danger of the user hurting himself; be it cutting one self with a sword or injuring muscles and bones
while waiving around with a flail or a construction site sledgehammer.

However, the usage of a baseball bat isn’t completely safe. Imagine if you miss a zombies head while trying to hit it with a horizontal swing (like hitting a baseball ball), if you’ve swung to hard.. you could rotate and give the zombie easy acces to either your back or your shoulder because you’ll loose your balance,; and we don’t want that!

Also, do not put nails into your bat; it might look cool and it might intimidate human oponents but what if you club a zombie and the nails get stuck inside it’s skull? You either loose the bat or you loose your life.

That’s why you have to remember that any weapon is an extension of you, and in this case an extension that can not be hurt or bitten. Use it like that! Push the Z’s away and wait for a perfect shot. Prod em and poke em, and don’t forget you still have your legs and possibly one free arm as a weapon/defense.

The thing most people forget is that bludgeoning weapons make a very big mess, so be careful not to get infected. Use protection on your face to prevent the infected blood from getting into your  mouth, nose and eyes.

Overall, 1 on 1 the baseball bat is awesome. Versus several zombies you’d need extreme nerves of steel, superb timing, excellent aim and very good stamina and strength. So go outside and practice! The baseball batis a good weapon, but not the perfect one. If you’re planning on using it the entire apocalypse you better stock up on food and water cause you’ll be burning serious energy.

Baseball bats are made from a variety of materials; wood, aluminum and my favourite polypropylene (Wiki). The Cold Steel Brooklyn Crusher baseball bat is
made from polypropylene and is the best when it comes to being incredibly durable and overall very very cheap. It is nearly indestructible. It is also a bit heavier than wood or aluminum bats, making it a bit harder to wield but overall a better weapon for zombie combat.

What you also might need:

Overgrip Tape

The duct tape of the zombie apocalypse! If you’re gonna use melee weapons and we all know you’re bound to do that we urge you to get yourself some overgrip tape.

This is the tape that tennis players use to wrap the handle of a tennis racket. Overgrip tape is extremely useful because it will both  protect your palms and give you a stronger grip with your weapon making it a lot harder to loose control over the weapon or the weapon itself. It helps you not loose grip when your hands start sweating.

It would be a good idea to both prepare your melee weapons with an overgrip tape and have a few extra rolls if the apocalypse gets all out of control and lasts a long time.

If tou discuss all the things besides weapon itself then I’ll choose Can-Opener as my primary needs. Its useless that you can loot canned food if you can not open it :P

Melee… always a good option in the apocalypse…
Baseball bats, driving irons, even a good length of pipe can increase your survivability by alot.

Just remember people, zeds ain’t too smart. If you have good accuracy, a well-thrown brick can be handy, too.
