Like every genre and sub-genre out there manga has had its fingers in the zombie world for quite some time now.. although it would not seem so at first because it is quite hard to actually find zombie manga. That’s why I decided to make this post and try to list all the zombie manga out there; at least the best zombie manga that is.
There is a lot of manga out there that feature zombies but not so many that are actually zombie related manga and even fewer zombie apocalypse manga. because of this we will not be talking about Gungrave, Soul Eater, Hellsing or similar mangas. We will give our best to feature only the “true” zombie manga in this zombie manga list. Please contact us and comment if we got anything wrong or if we missed a good (or even great) work of art; we’re only humans and there is a lot of stuff on the inter-webs.
Let us start this zombie manga list with a few obvious hits.
Highschool of the Dead follows the students of the Fujimi High School as a mysterious pandemic spreads through the entire school and even the town. The infected are reborn as flesh eating zeds who are after the blood of Takashi Komuro and his childhood friend, Rei among other survivors.
Highschool of the Dead is one of the more popular zombie mangas out there, so much that it even has an anime series made based upon it. Check it out if you’re into anime.
Michiru Kita is a weak -spirited girl with social problems who possesses a power which allows her to see a person’s closeness to death by seeing a ring around the person’s neck. When a person is marked to die, a gray ring appears, which darkens over time. Once the ring turns pitch black, the person dies. Two boys in her class, both have black rings around their necks, but are still alive. It is revealed that after an accident that was supposed to kill them both which happened 6 months ago, the two made a deal with Zombie-Loan. In return for keeping them alive, the two have to hunt zombies to pay back their debt. They ask for her help.
The series has an anime adaptation under the same name, Zombie-Loan.
Is This a Zombie? AKA “Kore wa Zombie Desu-ka?”
The story follows Ayumu Aikawa, a teenage boy, a normal high school kid, who turns out to be a Haitian like zombie who was brought back from death by a necromancer to whom he serves as a bodyguard.
His complicated existence becomes even more messy when he when he accidentally steals the powers of a magical girl, transforming into one himself – complete with frilly dress and pink chainsaw.
This manga is a light novel full of humor. It however features fights but as we said… it’s focus is more on humor.
The story follows Hideo Suzuki, a down-on-his-luck manga artist struggling to publish his own work while maintaining both a day job as another artist’s assistant and a strained relationship with his girlfriend. Hideo is shown to be mentally disturbed, often having conversations with an imaginary figure named Yajima, hallucinating the presence of faces under his bed and at his window, and fantasizing about how conversations with his co-workers and girlfriend should proceed. Above all, he sees himself as the hero of a manga, despite all appearances to the contrary.
One day, after returning from work late in the evening, Hideo witnesses a traffic accident in which a car crashes into a nearby pedestrian, killing the victim instantly. However, despite severe injuries including a broken neck, the victim’s body stands up and walks away. Hideo questions again whether this is another one of his hallucinations; however, strange events begin happening around him, though he refuses to fully acknowledge them, blaming his stress and over-time work is contributing to himself seeing things.
A romantic comedy manga that follows Chihiro Furuya who is a male high school student with a secret interest in zombies, collecting zombie-related videogames, film and manga, and even to the point of desiring to “kiss a zombie girl”. Following the death of his pet cat, Bābu, he attempts to revive it using an old manuscript, which describes the process of creating a potion for resurrection. But he’s discovered by a popular girl Sanka Rea, whose life isn’t as perfect as it seems…
and Chihiro Furuya suggests that she could serve as a test subject!
There is also an anime adaptation.
Reiko is introduced as a schoolgirl and a “zombie shop”; a professional necromancer who, for a substantial fee, reanimates the dead, for the purpose of obtaining information from them. Terror has struck the sleepy little town of Shiraike. A serial killer stalks the streets murdering innocent girls. Twenty-nine grisly murders have been committed, with no clues to catch the killer. Until Reiko pays a visit to the town…
Gamma Akutabi is a master criminal equipped with a chainsaw sword and a metal arm that gives him the power to catch bullets in flight. He’s also a Powder Hunter, which means he’s chasing after the Rings of the Dead. If he finds 12 of them, he can make zombie powder, which resurrects the dead and grants the living immortality.
After the death of his mother, Kuro Takagi transfers to a private high school, where his father is the proprietor. The school has a peculiar rule that students can not remain on campus after sundown. Kuro, of course, breaks the rule on his first day and suddenly his classmates and him are faced are by attacking zombies.
Kuro and his classmates somehow escape this attack, but this is just the beginning.
In this manga, the classic Cinderella fairy tale is turned upside down and we get Cinderalla. In Cinderalla, Dad and the stepsisters are zombies, the family runs a yakitori restaurant, and the prince is so sick he’s on a permanent IV support system.
The plot follows the unofficial Grand Orchestra: singer Lucille who searches for a way to rescue his younger sister Cordierite Cordie.
Lucille and his orchestra encounter a town overrun with the worst kind of audience: the Living Dead! Well, not really. They’re people who have beenturned into doll-like zombies. And they are definitely not a crowd to take lightly. Can a group of roving musicians use their skills to calm the beasts?
his manga is about zombie like demon creatures.
It follows Ranmaru Shindo who joins the Special Riot Squad to avenge the mysterious death of his parents. A crime that has gone unsolved. Recently, he has been having recurring dreams of a young woman covered in blood, wielding a giant sword. And when this mysterious woman suddenly appears in front of him as a member of the Special Public Safety Task Force (TOKKO), Ranmaru’s dreams suddenly become frightening real… A violent earthquake hits Tokyo and rumors of a demon-like creature unleashing its superhuman powers upon the city–forcing Ranmaru to begin a journey to uncover the true nature of TOKKO and its strange and sundry members.
Corpse Princess AKA Shikabane Hime

Apocalypse no Toride
Apocalypse No Toride is a manga about a zombie apocalypse and attack on a prison.
Zombie Huter is a manga from the 1970’s. It is extremely hard to find… and by extreme I mean expensive. It is a valued collectors items and rare hands can hold the original.
It is about an ex-race car driver who hunts down and kills zombies. The main character, Toshio Tamura, was once a grand prix champion who finds himself to be one of many people on a jungle island where he goes through a series of survival tests. He discovers that the purpose of the cruel and deadly games were to find people worthy enough to hunt down alien parasites that hid inside corpses, turning said corpses into zombies. Toshio initially rejects the offer to become a zombie hunter since he sees his would-be boss as a dangerous and sick man, but soon finds himself forced into the role when his loved ones are endangered.
The sotry follows Fujio and Mitsuo who are two fulltime slackers who work in a fire extinguisher factory. The two spend their lunch hours training to fulfill their dreams of being jujitsu champions. One day, they murder their boss and dump his body on a Tokyo toxic waste dump known as “Black Fuji”. Things suddenly become worse when an army of the undead rises from the waste dump and begin to attack the living. In order to survive, they will have to employ their limited jujitsu skills, to either help or escape Tokyo.
