You wouldn’t think that finding a decent zombie MMO game was hard, but it is! And that’s why I’m writing this and you’re reading it.
I remember when I had my 56k modem and would randomly go surfing on the web, today I don’t do that anymore. I (like everyone else) use search engines to find exactly what I want. Well I want to cry now, ’cause I can’t find what I am looking for.
After spending hours (today) and, overall, days during the last 2 years or so finding zombie games, I decided to list what I found and to write something about my experiences.
First off, there’s like a ton of zombie games being made, I mean, all over the place. You would imagine someone was subsidizing them; but they don’t, so most of them fail miserably after being pompously announced. The one’s that succeed are quite simple most of the time, but do give some pleasure.
Urban Dead (http://www.urbandead.com/) is a browser text MMO game, and you’ll either like it or you won’t. You can play it alone but I recommend using some teamplay – it will enhance the experience, which sadly rests on your shoulders’ imagination.
Outbreak Game, Quarantine 2019 and Shartak are Urban Dead spin-offs so I won’t even give you a link! Google it if you want to play them
Zombie Pandemic (http://www.zombiepandemic.com) is a relatively new browser MMORPG that’s inspired by Urban Dead and old GURPS games. It’s text based, but also gives a lot of pictures to jump start your imagination. It’s still being tested but I encourage you to go play it and help the guys out with your
suggestions. BTW, if you ever see Ixian in need of rescue, please help me!
The Dead Awaken (http://www.deadawaken.com/) is a game I just can’t play. Every time I start playing it, I wanna install System Shock 2. It’s a simple browser based game and it looks like one of the games that you can play in System Shock 2 on your PDA.
Hell’s revenge (http://www.hells-revenge.com/) is a text based MMORPG that I didn’t like. Ok? Ok! You go play it if you want to.
Brain Chef (http://brainchef.com/) is a simple browser game that is guaranteed to put at least one smile on your face, so go smile:-)
Bio Nightmare (www.bionightmare.com) – I don’t get it, people are talking about this game, but I can’t even open the web page, for a long time now, too.
Dead Frontier (www.deadfrontier.com) – it’s the best out there! It’s a zombie hack and slash, with rpg elements…you know, like Diablo
. It’s got an awesome feel to it, with great visual artwork and a beautiful selection in weapons and items (I have a katana
). Oh and btw, they’ve just announced that they’re going 3D in the summer of 2010!
Other games in development or being announced:
Last Man’s Stand – http://www.deadwaterproductions.com/games/lms/
Infected Earth – http://www.infectedearth.com/
and lastly, my big hope:
Z Day – http://www.zdaygame.com
ZDay is a Multiplayer Online 3D FPS Zombie Survival game currently under development by Arrowhead Games and it looks pretty cool, so take a peek at their youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/zdaygame#p/u/1/_BwmufYNW3I
People, I hope this helps a bit. Sorry if I left anything out, the inter webs can be a really big place sometimes.
Remember, kids: When in doubt, decapitate!
